Movie News--Hansel and Gretel Fairytale to be Rated R?

Umm...did I miss something in the fairytale as a kid?

Yes it's true, the retelling of the fairy (which should be out in early 2013) is going to be rated R. "Hansel &Gretel: Witch Hunters" is going to star Jeremy Renner, who will play Hansel, and Gemma Arterton, who will play Gretel. The kids we once knew from the popular fairytale are now grown-up, and have decided to become witch hunters (as the title might give away). Sources say that the R rating is because the action/mystery film will be gory and violent. Those of you with weak stomachs then might want to skip this one out.

With "Fairytale Movies" being the next upcoming new fad, probably since vampires are going to be on their way out soon, "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" is just another to add to the list. It sort of started this summer with "Snow White and the Huntsman" and even earlier with the movie "Red Riding Hood" in March. We will probably be seeing the pattern of the gloomy/dark take on the fairytales (again, probably because of the popularity of the vampires) but does that mean it will be bad?

"Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" probably isn't Oscar-winning gold, but that doesn't mean it's going to be awful either. Of course we all have to wait for the trailer to come out for all of us to make our own opinions, but it definitely has two solid main leads so that is a plus. The makers of the film say the violence and gore in it are meant to make it more of a "Quentin Tarantino-esque feel to the movie. According to ScreenRant, "the movie reportedly tested favorably, with audiences enjoying its off-kilter sense of humor and combination of solid action and graphic violence." Despite the film having a now restricted audience, I think the film will still do fine at the Box Office's once it is released (January 11, 2013).

So what do you think? Are you excited for a darker take on this fairytale (along with others), or are you sick of these emo-like movie fads coming in and out?
