Movie News--Watch the First Ten Minutes of the British Horror Film "The Awakening"

Hmm....this might be pretty ok.

ScreenRant has posted to their site the first ten minutes to the British film making it's way to (limited) American theaters "The Awakening". The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and has already been released in British theaters. As I said, on August 17th, it will make it's way to American theaters. Here is a synopsis on the film:

Set in London in 1921, Florence Cathcart (Hall), author of the popular book ‘Seeing Through Ghosts,’ has devoted her career to exposing claims of the supernatural as nothing but hoaxes. Haunted by the recent death of her fiancĂ©, she is approached by Robert Mallory (West) to investigate the recent death of a student at the all-boys boarding school where he teaches. When students at the school report sightings of the young boy’s ghost, she decides to take on the case. Initially, the mystery surrounding the ghost appears nothing more than a schoolboy prank, but as Florence continues to investigate events at the school, she begins to believe that her reliance on science may not be enough to explain the strange phenomenon going on around her.

The movie stars Rebecca Hall and Dominic West, and, as said in the synopses, the opening scene focuses on Florence Cathcart (Hall), a women who tries to expose all things supernatural as nothing but hoaxes, debunking a seance. Then we meet Dominic West's character who informs her about a haunting that might actually be real. I felt this scene was really creative (even though the story is a little unoriginal because it's just a woman having to come to terms that her world is turned upside down due to an actual haunting) because it tricks it's audience. It seems to be real for the most part, but then we are shown the truth and it makes us second guess what we just saw.

So what do you think? Will you go see this movie just from seeing those ten minutes, or does it not appeal to you at all?
