Spy movies, specifically the 007 movies, have been spoofed over and over again. Some of these would include movies such as "Austin Powers" and "Johnny English". Apparently Sacha Baron Cohen wants to get in on it now as he recently pitched an untitled James Bond spoof to Paramount.
Sacha Baron Cohen is known for making his comedic barrier breaking, documentary style films such as "Borat" (2006), "Bruno" (2009), and recently "The Dictator" (2012). If Baron Cohen decides to keep going with this project, I think it will be like "The Dictator" where it isn't as documentary style but more like a movie. Although he has been starring in other movie that aren't comedies (such as the movie Hugo), he doesn't tend to completely shy away from comedy. There is still now word yet on whether Baron Cohen will star in his spy film or not.
People tend to love spy movies because of the mystery, gadgets, cool cars, and of course gorgeous women. With all of this, these movies are extremely easy to spoof. With Sacha Baron Cohen making his own spy spoof, people will probably see it for his comedy style. I think he could make it funny as long as the crude humor is limited, like in "The Dictator", and not over done like in "Bruno". This would be also perfect timing to do it also since the new James Bond flick, "Skyfall" will be coming out this November.
What do you think? Would you like to see Sacha Baron Cohen make a spy spoof or are you sick of his movies?
